Jim and I met in 1996. As we talked, we realized that we had a lot of the same musical influences, interests and goals. After getting together to jam several times, we decided to focus on and develop several of the song ideas that seemed to have potential. We worked on chord structure, melody and arrangement, and before long we had enough material for a whole album.
While discussing our options for recording, we decided to produce and engineer the record ourselves based on Jim's extensive production and engineering knowledge and expertise. Recording this record took a very long time to finish, about five years, due to busy schedules and prior commitments. Sometimes when you are doing so many short sessions over a long period of time, the consistency and continuity of the tunes as a whole album can be lost. However, because of our dedication to this project and Jim's expertise, we were able to stay true to the album's original concept.
The album, Escape Velocity, was finally released in 2001. Every time I listen to it, the record still retains as much excitement today as it did back then. I hope you enjoy this album as much as we enjoyed creating it.
